Industrial relations: Foster flexibility
- Reduce or remove the three-hour minimum engagement requirement from the Pastoral Award 2010 or make it more flexible to acknowledge the unique workforce requirements of the dairy industry in needing to milk cows twice a day.
The Pastoral Award 2010 states that part-time and casual employees are required to be engaged for a minimum of three hours per shift. This minimum was not in the previous (1998) version of the Award. Farmers must roster workers according to animal needs and this may involve working two, one and a half hour shifts to make three hours each day, rather than three hours per shift.
