Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines: Land Transport of Livestock
- Ensure the Land Transport of Livestock Standards and Guidelines are reflected in the industry-based quality-assurance programs that include livestock welfare provisions.
The Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines—Land Transport of Livestock are an important component of the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy (AAWS)—a Federal Government initiative that guides the development of new, nationally consistent policies to enhance animal welfare arrangements in all Australian states and territories.
The standards, based on scientific knowledge and recommended industry practice, provide a basis for developing and implementing legislation and enforcement across Australia, and provide guidance for all people responsible for livestock during transport.
Developed in consultation with State and Territory Governments, livestock industry organisations including ADF, animal welfare groups and the general public under the support of the Animal Welfare Committee, the standards are managed by Animal Health Australia.
